Fighting resumes in Tigray

Reports emerged at the end of August that fighting has resumed in Tigray, the latest development in a violent conflict that has endured since November 2020. Both sides have blamed each other for the renewed hostilities, but a year-long communications blockade and a ban on most journalists to the region have made it difficult to verify what exactly transpired. Regardless of how it began, the violence has shattered a five-month-long ceasefire and dashed any hopes of peace talks between the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) and the Ethiopian government.
